S.B. WHITEHEAD has had a long career as an artist and illustratror. Beginning in New York City, he studied art at The Pratt Institute and NYU and soon began a long career as a freelance illustrator based in New York City.

His work has appeared in major publications and has illustrated several children’s books including “Red Foley’s History of Baseball” and “If Roast Beef Could Fly” by Jay Leno, which became a New York Times #1 bestseller.

His print work has also appeared in Time, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated For Kids, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Village Voice, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest and many, many other magazines, newspapers, books and on-line publications.

One of his first freelance clients was Topps, the trading card company. Working on many special projects, including Bazooka Joe comics and eventually, baseball card cartoons.
Beginning in 2011, be began travelling across the country participating in juried art fairs and expos, exhibiting his “The Fine Art of Baseball” project.

This has been his opportunity to sell, directly to the public, his baseball-themed paintings and prints. Taking his inspiration from the design of vintage baseball cards, he has created a body of work that reflects his love of the game of baseball, it’s history, it’s characters and the aura around the game that celebrates, in paint, this classic sport.

Mr. Whitehead’s work has won numerous awards (including some “Best of Show” honors) and his original paintings and prints are in the collections of patrons all across the U.S. and overseas.
